Description
• Species: Formica cinerea.
• Size: Queen 11 -13 mm, the workers:6- 8 mm.
• Coloration: black
• Occurrence: mainly Central Europe.
• Nutrition in nature: insects and honeydew
• Nutrition at home: honey and insects (for example mealworms, crickets etc.)

Formica cinerea occurs throughout the Polish and almost all over Europe. Nests are built on a dry, sunny and bare sandy areas with scarce vegetation. The species adapts well to changing conditions, it can be found on the slopes of rivers or in the mountains at altitudes 1800-2500 m.
Colonies may either be monogyne or polygyne. It's an easy ant for breeding at home.
