This seed blend forms the core diet for harvester ants. It can be scattered directly on the formicarium arena or placed in an ant seed feeder (e.g., 7.5 cm feeder for tall formicaria or medium feeder for smaller setups).
Messor barbarus ants produce “ant bread” by crushing and grinding seeds: soldiers crush seeds while workers grind them into a nutritious paste. As the colony expands, their protein needs increase, making a varied seed mix essential.
Ant keeping Advice:
To prevent mold, place seeds in an open container within the formicarium.
