Europe's biggest ant - species description:
Camponotus ligniperdus is the largest Polish and European ant that lives in the forests and in the areas of bushes. Ant nests are built in tree trunks or in roots of large trees. Ant with castes.
Typically, in the nest there is one fertile queen, if there are some other queens they can not tolerate each other and occupy different parts of the nest.
Tip for ant breeding:
These ants develop slowly, especially in the early days of the colony. The colony may stagnate, which is normal for this species. The colonies grow gradually, but over the time you can grow an impressive and interesting colony with caste-divided ants. Camponotus Ligniperda is an ant species for patient growers.
The minimum recommended amount for the colonization of formicarium is 13-15 ants. Due to the size of the ant, we recommend the Compakt formicarium (it is horizontal and has a cork nest)
